The AHDB National Beef Evaluations provide data on the genetic potential of beef cattle. Whether you are selecting your new bull, replacement heifers or which animals to buy in, NBE uses national data, including BCMS and carcase data from major beef processors, to measure genetic merit.
The evaluations were first launched in late 2018, providing carcase trait EBVs for UK beef cattle based on commercially sourced data. In 2022, we launched EBVs for three new maternal traits. In 2025, EnviroBeef, our environmental index was also added.
More than 10 million cattle
The AHDB National Beef Evaluations publishes results for cattle of all breeds, including non-pedigree and crossbred cattle. This includes over 10 million animals born over the last 10 years.
What do the results mean?
Trait definitions
NBE measures genetic potential for a wide range of important characteristics of beef cattle, from key maternal traits, to carcase traits which affect what price a finished animal makes.
